Republican candidate for president Rick Santorum spoke on the campus of Oral Roberts University today where I attend school. I did not go, but elected to take a nap instead (and, oh, was it a good one). I elected not to go because I do not give ear to public figures who foment homophobic fear while at the same time slipping in the word “Jesus” or “God” every few sentences to establish some sort of connection with the conservative Evangelicals who comprise their base. Rick Santorum is probably a well-enough guy to be around and I’m sure he’s a great husband and father. He’s also a brother in Christ and I look forward to breaking bread with him at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Until that time, however, he will have neither my support nor respect so long as he continues to build his political career on ignorance and prejudice.
